It’s a triumph of the modern world that palaces once built through plunder and forced labor are now freely visited by everyone. Parking your car in front of Versailles is very much the most egalitarian thing you can do.
And while we wander around in awe, we shouldn’t fall for the self-portraits those monarchs paid to have painted. The Baroque buildings in Europe are full of art-slop that we only admire because it was fine craftsmanship and obscenely expensive.
AC
With high morality, we look at the number of deaths by gun violence in the States and bask in the moral high ground we claim here. They just need to forbid assault weapons! Right?
Meanwhile, an equal number of heat-related deaths in Europe leads only to fake alarmism and dangerously inadequate “heat tips” in the German media — like closing windows, hanging wet towels, etc. These tips are deadly.
We just need to install ACs in hospitals, schools, and elderly homes to save countless lives, to let the elderly live better lives, to help children think clearly while learning.
Places
Look at Places, a collection of places I recommend and will continuously update.
Robbed
They are robbing you in broad daylight. They tell you only those with the right parent household make it. They tell you that statistically you are not going to make it. That your heritage, your race, or your gender will hinder you. That there are great hidden powers, the wealthy, the powerful, robbing you and you have no chance.
You shall be miserable and fulfill the prophecy of having no chance. They are robbing you of your own agency.
Fake CO2
My guilty pleasure is listening to DLF Radio - and DLF’s guilty pleasure is inviting people who come up with fake CO2 emissions figures.
My absolute favorite: Emails. You can see these fake emission numbers in business signatures as well (“think before replying…each email emits 100g CO2”).
It’s absolutely insane that these numbers get published unchecked in scientific radio formats like DLF. For example, last November they promoted a “CO2 Diary App” that claimed: 7 received emails with attachments = 350g CO2 = 50g CO2 per email.
