Hessens Naturwälder showcases 24 different nature forest locations across Hesse, representing the goal of leaving 5% of Hesse’s forests to natural development by 2030. These pristine forests range from mountainous regions and floodplain areas to volcanic landscapes and limestone regions.
Key locations include Kellerwald-Edersee National Park (the largest), Reinhardswald near Kassel, Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue, and Wispertaunus in Hinterlandswald. Each forest offers unique biodiversity, geological characteristics, and wildlife habitats representing the diversity of natural forest ecosystems in Hesse.
